The adventure lover’s heaven
“All good things are wild and free, so the saying goes. Imagine the excitement that comes with floating on white water ripples in a tube; this is the adrenaline rush at tubing the Nile, an experience unmatched.
Bafirawala Adam, the proprietor of Tubing the Nile, an adventure company in Jinja, kimaka neighbouring Jinja Nile Resort Hotel says the experience is priceless.
He says the fascination borne at a tender age, was inspired by South African friend Henry Copatze (RIP)
The 26-year-old entrepreneur explains that the project that sparked off the idea started in 2015 and by the following year, had already taken shape.
He recalls how the community of his grooming took time to finally accept the once little boy would become an entrepreneur: “I started as a young tour guide walking tourists around. I exited to start my own business to break free from a company I found racist and never giving back to the community.
Despite being a professional web developer and experienced digital marketer, Bafirawala was never deterred pursuing a different course
Tubing the Nile, strategically set up near the Victoria Nile, with her white waters flowing freely from Lake Kyoga is an entrapment for visitors. He says the uniqueness of the tubes over rafts made it an ideal choice.
Tubing is the leisure activity of riding on water or snow on a large inflated inner tube. At Tubing the Nile, the experience involves floating on either calm waters known as Flat water Tubing or for a thrilling experience on water ripples known as Extreme Tubing, along the Victoria Nile which will give you an adrenaline rush and derives a “-stress reliever effect and mind relaxing activity”
Bafirawala stresses “clients’ safety is paramount: “each person is equipped with a life jacket to ensure their safety in calm water and an additional safety helmet within white water,”
Other tubing experiences include Whitewater Tubing and Whitewater Rafting. For non-water lovers, one may engage in quad biking or bungee jumping.
Bafirawala amazingly chooses fun over money when it comes to his clients: “when tubing came into existence, we employed some fifteen young people within the community to enable them support their families
Not all that rosy
Like every business, tubbing encounters Bafirawala ensures he gets on top of situations: “says he has had to withstand opposition from people in the community”
He says targeting not just foreigners but locals as tourists has rewarded him!
He says the mind relaxing activity has particularly been well received.
In the next Five years, the young entrepreneur hopes to establish a home and liberate from rent I would like the company to have its own property with offices and accommodation, bar and restaurant among others” he says.
