Senior educator and Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, Dr Lawrence Muganga, has issued a detailed letter to President Yoweri Museveni urging the government to embrace emerging technologies — particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) — as a core part of Uganda’s economic strategy.

Dr Muganga argues that AI, immersive technologies, blockchain, and machine learning could significantly transform a range of key economic sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance. He emphasised that such technologies have the potential to boost productivity and position Uganda favorably within the global digital economy.

In his letter, Dr Muganga outlined the rapid pace of technological change and the opportunity for Uganda to harness this for both employment creation and economic diversification. He warned that without active engagement and strategic investment in technology, Uganda risks being left behind as other nations leverage digital advancements to accelerate growth.
The call to action stresses that enabling frameworks — from policy reform to public‑private partnerships — will be crucial if AI and related innovations are to contribute meaningfully toward national wealth creation.
