Ugandan business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has donated UGX 50 million to the Teso cultural institution during the closing ceremony of the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp held at Bukedea Teaching Hospital in Eastern Uganda. The contribution was announced as part of ongoing philanthropic efforts by the Ruparelia Foundation aimed at supporting community development and strengthening partnerships with cultural institutions.

The three-day medical outreach attracted thousands of patients from across the Teso sub-region and neighboring areas, seeking treatment for various eye conditions. The camp provided free services including screening, surgeries, and distribution of spectacles, addressing a critical healthcare gap in a region where access to specialized eye care remains limited.
Bukedea, located in Eastern Uganda and serving as the administrative center of Bukedea District, has increasingly become a focal point for health outreach programs due to its strategic position between Mbale and Soroti. The scale of turnout at the eye camp reflects both the demand for such services and the limited availability of affordable eye care in rural communities.
The initiative was organized in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, whose legacy continues to inspire large-scale humanitarian interventions. Medical teams at the camp included specialists capable of conducting surgeries on-site, ensuring that beneficiaries received immediate treatment rather than referrals.
The UGX 50 million donation further underscores the growing role of private sector actors in complementing public healthcare delivery in Uganda, particularly in underserved regions.
